I loved magic shows when I was a kid. Who am I kidding? I still do! Card tricks, magic tricks, disappearing whatevers – it was all fun and fascinating. Our latest pattern release is a magic trick all in itself, aptly named “Wallah!“
“And now,” the loudspeaker dramatically calls out, “be intrigued as the amazing sister-duo create spectacular stars out of ordinary 4-patches!” The crowd goes wild. Material Girlfriends enter stage left.
I don’t get out much. Leave me to my fantasies.
The block is quite clever, even if I say so myself. This past Saturday we hosted the Wallah! Mystery Zoom class. I was dying to reveal the mystery. Finally, we were able to reveal this magical quilt to the 52 participants. We all had a blast! Since Wallah! is no longer a mystery, we’re happy to share the trick with you.
The pattern includes color graphics and step-by-step instructions. Plus you’ll find 2 pages of layout options. You can get instant gratification by purchasing a pdf download from our Etsy Store. Order online in our Material Girlfriends Shop and we’ll be happy to mail you a printed copy. They should be arriving by early next. Shop and buy at your local brick-and-mortar shops! And thank you for requesting Material Girlfriends patterns.
And for my next trick, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat. 😉 Wallah!

Lololol…lovely pattern….but you DO know the word is “VOILA”?
Lisa Norton
Of course! LOL. Voila was already another quilt name. The online collaborative reference Wiktionary includes “wallah” as an “informal” alternative form for “voila” and “voilà.” In French, Voila means “See, there!” American magicians used the word enough to “bastardize” it. Wallah or walla has been used as a humorous, tongue in cheek, spelling for a magic word. 🙂

Good Afternoon Ladies
I’m writing this from Sydney, Australia. Way Down-Under!!
I have just sent my version of your Confetti Star quilt pattern off to be long-armed. I really enjoyed making it. We also have a Summer of bushfires in Australia, so I have followed your design for your ‘Forest Fire’ quilt but have named mine ‘Fire Storm’.
I watched your tutorial on ‘WALLAH’. It looks lovely, but I was really interested in the instruction manual you were using. The instructions appeared to be easy to follow. and it left me wondering if this is a book you have put together yourselves?
And is it available for sale to quilters like myself who need all the help we can get?
Best Regards & Stay Safe.
Lisa Norton
Hi Janice! Thanks for the message. Yes, Wallah is now available as a digital download on our Etsy store. We love our international customers and understand the crazy high cost of international shipping keeps you all from getting the patterns you want.
